Rapid City will soon be home to a 12-bedroom Ronald McDonald House designed to serve families with children receiving treatment at Monument Health-Rapid City. Announced Wednesday, the $7 million project is a partnership between Ronald McDonald House-South Dakota and Monument Health.
The house will offer free lodging for roughly 600 families per year, complete with a kitchen, play areas, and staff support. Future expansion is already factored in, as projections estimate that by 2035, up to 19 families per day could need support.
Construction is set to begin in September near East Fairmont Blvd. and Elm Avenue, just blocks from the hospital. The nonprofit has raised $6 million so far and expects to open in late 2026.
Funding for the Rapid City house relies entirely on donations and operates with projected annual costs of $400,000.
