Officials have released additional information on a fire that broke out in Summerset on Wednesday
The Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department responded to the structure fire in the 6000 block of Polk Street in Summerset, Meade County, South Dakota. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and active flames originating from the exterior of a single-story residence, with fire extending into the ceiling and roof.
Crews successfully contained the blaze to the home of origin, preventing damage to nearby properties and infrastructure. No injuries were reported among residents, firefighters, pets, or livestock.
The American Red Cross Serving Central and Western South Dakota, along with family and neighbors, is assisting the affected residents.
More than a dozen agencies were involved in the response.
