Governor Larry Rhoden has adopted the Correctional Rehabilitation Task Force’s recommendation to launch the Prison Seminary Model, a four‑year accredited program focused on faith, academics, and leadership to transform inmates into peer ministers. The initiative is privately funded and requires no state or inmate resources.
Lt. Governor Tony Venhuizen praised the task force’s progress, noting both faith‑based and tribal rehabilitation efforts. Senator Sue Peterson called the seminary “the premier program nationwide for transforming prison culture.”
The Tribal Subcommittee also advanced 11 proposals under review, including strengthening parole partnerships, restoring volunteer hours, standardizing reentry checklists, piloting a Tribal Cultural Liaison, and ensuring ID issuance before release.
All Task Force subcommittees will continue presenting recommendations in upcoming meetings.
