The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office conducted alcohol compliance checks on December 10, 2025, inspecting 15 establishments. Fourteen businesses passed, while one was cited for selling alcohol to an underage informant.

The violating business was Loves Travel & Country Store at 679 Reagan Avenue in Box Elder. An employee received a citation under SDCL 35‑9‑1.1. Furnishing alcohol to someone ages 18–20 is a Class 2 misdemeanor, punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a $500 fine. Businesses face fines of $1,000 for a first offense, $2,000 for a second, and potential loss of their liquor or business license for a third offense.
