Black Hills Life Flight has added an upgraded fixed‑wing aircraft to its Rapid City base, expanding its ability to transport patients long distances or fly in conditions unsuitable for its helicopters in Rapid City and Hot Springs.
The PC‑12/47 NG offers short‑field takeoff and landing capabilities, higher cruise speeds, improved fuel efficiency, and a large rear cargo door ideal for EMS operations. The aircraft also features updated avionics, a more powerful engine, a quieter five‑blade propeller, and an increased weight capacity—allowing crews to carry heavier patients, additional equipment, more fuel, or a family member.
Air Methods, the national air medical provider that operates Black Hills Life Flight, is transitioning much of its fixed‑wing fleet to the PC‑12 to streamline maintenance and staffing.
