Spearfish City Administrator Bobby Falcon, is facing scrutiny after Five Spearfish City Council members publicly called this week for his removal during a recent meeting.
Falcon, was hired in late 2024, and faced questions about a 1995 felony conviction in North Dakota. He told attendees the conviction was pardoned in 2022, and Mayor John Senden said Falcon disclosed it during hiring and passed a background check.
Residents at the meeting said their frustrations centered on communication problems and a disconnect with city leadership, not Falcon’s past conviction.
The city attorney said he will seek guidance from the State Attorney General on whether the council can remove Falcon with the mayor’s approval. The council also advanced an ordinance to restore its authority over hiring decisions, reducing the administrator’s powers.
