The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources announced that the Board of Water and Natural Resources has approved $48.9 million for water and wastewater projects statewide.
The package includes $36.96 million in state loans (with $425,000 in principal forgiveness), $7.65 million in Emerging Contaminants grants for small or disadvantaged communities, and $4.31 million in additional ARPA funding. Support was awarded through the Drinking Water and Clean Water State Revolving Funds, the Emerging Contaminants program, and ARPA. Project highlights include:
- BDM Rural Water: +$233,450 ARPA for a new treatment plant, reservoir, system expansion, and meter replacement. Total ARPA: $5.5M.
- Mid-Dakota Rural Water: +$917,357.85 ARPA for metering upgrades, pipe paralleling, backwash recovery, and membrane capacity. Total ARPA: $21.6M.
- Rapid City: $14.512M Drinking Water loan (4.00%, 30 years) for well improvements and two new wells.
These programs are jointly funded by the State of South Dakota and the U.S. EPA through federal appropriations, loan repayments, and bonds. The board approved all funding at its meeting in Pierre.
