A Rapid City man was arrested early Saturday morning after a business owner confronted a burglar inside his establishment and held him at gunpoint until deputies arrived, according to the Meade County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. in the 6000 block of Peaceful Pines Drive. Deputies had just cleared an unrelated call on North Haines Avenue when they were dispatched to the reported burglary in progress.
Investigators said the business owner discovered a man actively breaking into the property. The owner displayed a firearm and detained the suspect while waiting for law enforcement. With resources already stretched, several Pennington County deputies also responded to assist.
Authorities identified the suspect as Richard Boardman, 30, of Rapid City. He was taken into custody on a burglary charge and transported to the Meade County Jail.
The case remains under investigation.
