Rapid City officials are warning residents to avoid using third‑party websites to pay utility bills or parking citations, saying the services can add extra fees and even cause late payments.
Some companies that appear in online or AI‑generated searches — including DOXO.com — charge their own processing fees and may mail payments to the city after the due date, resulting in late charges for customers. The city notes these services are legal but unnecessary, since Rapid City already offers multiple secure payment options, many of them free.
Officials urge residents to use the city’s official webpages to ensure payments are processed quickly.
Utility bills can be paid at City Hall by cash or check, by mail, through the drop box on Sixth Street, via bank‑initiated bill pay, or online by eCheck, credit card or debit card. Parking citations can be paid through the city’s online Citation Portal, at City Hall, or by mail or drop box. Each citation also includes a QR code linking to the portal.
For questions, residents can contact the Rapid City Finance Office at 605‑394‑4143.
