Cross Street, between Omaha Street and West Main Street, will close after Wednesday’s morning commute as Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern Railroad crews work to repair a broken rail at the crossing.
City officials say the damaged rail does not pose a safety risk, but the road must be shut down to allow crews to make repairs. There is currently no estimated timeline for when the work will be finished. RCP&E plans to provide a more precise closure time early Wednesday, though the shutdown will occur sometime after the morning commute.
Drivers who rely on Cross Street are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes. The city will share updates as they become available.
