A blast of Arctic air is bringing dangerously cold temperatures to western South Dakota, prompting a cold weather advisory from the National Weather Service.
Forecasters expect, with single‑digit and below‑zero highs across the plains as a strong high‑pressure system pushes frigid air south.
Gusty winds behind an earlier cold front may cause pockets of blowing snow, though additional snowfall is expected to remain light. Wind chills are expected to range between-25 and -45 through this evening.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers, and prepare vehicles and livestock for severe cold.
