Rapid City police have arrested a 19‑year‑old man after gunfire damaged an apartment building Thursday and sparked an afternoon search.
Officers were first called just after 11:30 Thursday morning to the 700 block of East Anamosa Street, where witnesses reported multiple gunshots. Police arrived to find shell casings on the ground and bullet holes in an apartment building. No one was hurt.
Witnesses identified the shooter as Tristin Black Elk of Rapid City.
Around 3:30 p.m., officers received a second report—this time of a man walking along North 7th Street with a handgun. When they tried to contact him, Black Elk ran. After a brief foot chase, he was arrested.
Black Elk is now facing two counts of aggravated assault, along with charges for reckless discharge of a firearm and discharging a firearm at a structure. He was taken to the Pennington County Jail.
Police say the investigation is ongoing, but no injuries were reported in the shooting.
