A 23‑year‑old Rapid City man was arrested late Wednesday after police say he brandished what appeared to be a handgun in two separate incidents before being stopped on Interstate 190.
Police were first called around 11:45 p.m. to 449 E. Stumer Road after an employee reported that a man had pointed a gun at him before leaving in a red Nissan pickup. Minutes later, officers received another report that the driver of a red pickup had threatened a pedestrian with a firearm near 35 Omaha Street.
Officers soon spotted the truck heading west on Omaha Street and followed it toward the I‑190 northbound on‑ramp, where they conducted a high‑risk traffic stop. The driver complied with commands and was detained without incident.
Police identified the suspect as Logan Everett, 23, of Rapid City. Officers found a BB gun made to look like a real handgun on Everett, and a search of the truck uncovered a bag containing a crystalline substance that field‑tested positive for methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia.
Witnesses from both locations were brought to the scene and positively identified Everett as the man who had brandished the weapon.
Everett was arrested on two counts of Simple Assault Intimidation, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was booked into the Pennington County Jail.
