ORIGINAL STORY:
A large-scale, multi‑agency manhunt remains ongoing as law enforcement continues searching for 37‑year‑old Jeremy Taylor, an armed and dangerous fugitive who fled from a traffic stop on Friday and has since evaded capture. Taylor is wanted on an active arrest warrant out of Ohio for gross sexual imposition, in addition to facing local charges including eluding, resisting arrest, and obstruction
According to the Rapid City Police Department (RCPD), officers initially stopped Taylor on January 30, 2026, but the encounter quickly escalated. During the stop, Taylor allegedly sped away, nearly striking an officer, prompting an immediate pursuit. He was last seen in the vicinity of Baker Park Road and Sheridan Lake Road in Pennington County before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing into nearby wooded terrain. Witnesses and responding officers reported that Taylor escaped on foot carrying an AR‑15 rifle, heightening the risk to both officers and the public.
Law enforcement agencies, including the RCPD and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, have since launched a widescale search effort, coordinating units across rugged terrain west of Rapid City. Authorities have concentrated their search within a corridor stretching between Sheridan Lake Road and Highway 16, and further west between Boulder Hill Road and Highway 385, areas dense with forest and steep landscapes that complicate tracking efforts.
Taylor is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, and was last seen wearing a tan hoodie and tan cargo pants. Investigators have taken possession of the vehicle he was driving during the initial stop, but they note he is known to own a black 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500, bearing South Dakota license plate 27CT36. It remains unclear whether he currently has access to or is using this truck.
Authorities emphasize that Taylor remains actively at large and poses a serious threat due to his prior actions and the fact that he is believed to be armed. Residents throughout the Rapid City area are urged to maintain heightened awareness and avoid any attempt to engage. “Do not approach Jeremy Taylor under any circumstances,” law enforcement officials warned. Individuals who may have seen Taylor or possess information regarding his location are asked to immediately call 911. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting “RCPD” followed by the information to 847411.
As the search continues, multiple agencies remain deployed throughout the region, using ground units, K‑9 teams, and aerial resources where possible. Authorities stress that the investigation is ongoing and that updates will be released as new information becomes available.
