The Rapid City Fire Department responded to 22,591 calls for service in 2025, a 2.13% increase from the previous year—an additional 472 calls, or about 39 more per month. Despite the rising demand, officials said crews maintained strong response times and 24/7 readiness.
Fire units were dispatched 32,572 times, spending more than 19,200 hours on incident responses.
Emergency medical calls made up the bulk of activity, totaling 16,177 calls—about 72% of all responses. Other call types included 2,914 service calls, 1,419 false alarms, 1,403 good intent calls, and 230 fire incidents, along with responses to hazardous conditions and severe weather.
Medic units transported 11,866 patients, including 1,335 tied to flight team responses and 651 transfers from Monument Health. Crews also handled 155 cardiac arrests.
August was the department’s busiest month. Medic 1 logged the most runs with 3,970 calls, while Station 1 was the busiest station with 8,557 responses.
Officials highlighted the continued effectiveness of building sprinkler systems, which kept fire losses under 1% and helped protect an estimated $66.5 million in property in buildings where sprinklers were installed.
The department reported no civilian fire deaths in 2025. Eight firefighters were injured while responding to fire incidents.
