The South Dakota House Health & Human Services Committee voted 9–4 on Thursday to defer House Bill 1212 to the 41st day of the legislative session, effectively ending the bill’s progress.
The bill sponsored by State Representative Tony Randolph would have criminalized abortion and allowed for criminal charges to be brought against women who undergo the procedure.
Dale Bartscher of South Dakota Right to Life was among those testifying against the bill…
Because the committee deferred the bill, it is unlikely to be considered by the full South Dakota House of Representatives.
