Sturgis police responded to a crash around 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the Sturgis High School parking lot. Multiple juveniles were involved. Several had minor injuries, and one person was trapped under a vehicle and unresponsive.
Responding officers and deputies freed the individual and began lifesaving efforts until Sturgis Ambulance arrived. The patient was taken to Sturgis Hospital and later airlifted to a Rapid City hospital in critical condition.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is leading the investigation. Sturgis Fire Department, Sturgis Ambulance, the Meade County Sheriff’s Office and Sturgis Police Department assisted at the scene.
