A Rapid City man was arrested after allegedly striking a police officer during a late‑night disturbance at a hotel on North Elk Vale Road.
Police responded around 11:40 p.m. Friday to reports of two intoxicated people causing problems with staff and throwing items in the lobby. Officers found 24‑year‑old Terrance Running Shield yelling at an employee and showing signs of heavy intoxication.
When officers tried to separate him from the staff member, Running Shield allegedly hit an officer in the face. Police say he continued to struggle after being taken to the ground before he was finally restrained.
Running Shield was booked into the Pennington County Jail on charges of simple assault on law enforcement and resisting arrest. Investigators say neither he nor the woman with him were hotel guests; the woman was released at the scene.
