Six public‑safety bills backed by Attorney General Marty Jackley cleared the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, advancing measures that target online predators, prison drug smuggling, and protections for personal data.
Jackley said the proposals strengthen laws that safeguard “children, young adults, prison staff, and inmates.”
The committee advanced the following Senate bills:
- SB 41 – Expands the state’s invasion‑of‑privacy laws and bans the creation or distribution of digitally fabricated images of identifiable people.
- SB 42 – Increases penalties for bringing controlled substances into state correctional facilities.
- SB 43 – Updates search‑and‑seizure provisions related to digital currency.
- SB 44 – Grants investigative subpoena authority for certain business‑record inquiries.
- SB 45 – Tightens regulations on delta‑8 THC, THC‑O, and HHC for those under 21.
- SB 49 – Adds privacy and security protections for genetic data.
All six bills previously passed the Senate and now head to the full House. SBs 43, 44, 45, and 49 were approved unanimously and placed on the consent calendar.
