Matt Brandhagen has been appointed director of the Recreation Division for the City of Rapid City, replacing Doug Lowe, who retired earlier this year.
Brandhagen has spent nearly 19 years with the City Parks and Recreation Department, beginning as a recreation coordinator in 2007 and serving as a recreation program specialist since 2010. During that time, he coordinated numerous community events, oversaw multiple sports leagues, and helped expand recreational offerings such as bocce and pickleball.
City Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Biegler praised Brandhagen’s community focus and energy, saying he brings a strong understanding of local recreation needs.
The Recreation Division oversees city aquatics facilities, including the Roosevelt Park Swim Center and public pools, Meadowbrook and Executive golf courses, the Roosevelt Park Ice Arena, and a wide range of competitive and recreational sports programs.
