The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a Fire Weather Watch for much of western and central South Dakota and parts of northeastern Wyoming, effective tomorrow afternoon through Wednesday evening.
The watch is due to the combination of strong southwest winds, expected to range from 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph, and very low relative humidity levels that could drop to around 10 percent. Forecasters say these conditions could create critical fire weather and increase the risk of rapid wildfire spread.
The affected areas include the Black Hills, foothills, Badlands, Pine Ridge, and several surrounding plains counties in South Dakota and Wyoming.
Officials urge residents to monitor forecasts closely and be prepared for potential Red Flag Warnings if conditions worsen.
