Rapid City police have arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with a stabbing incident early Monday morning that left two people injured.
According to the Rapid City Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:50 a.m. to a report of a stabbing in a residential area. When officers arrived, they located one adult male with stab wounds to his torso and immediately began rendering first aid.
While officers were responding, police received a second report from another individual who said he had also been stabbed, RCPD spokesperson Brendyn Medina said. Officers later located that individual at a gas station near 525 E. North Street, where they found he had suffered stab wounds to his arm.
Both men were transported to the hospital for treatment of what police described as non-life-threatening but significant injuries.
In an update released by RCPD at 2:54 p.m., police identified the man found at the gas station as Jesse Torres, 40, of Rapid City. Investigators have since determined Torres was the suspected assailant in the stabbing.
Police said Torres’ injuries were likely unintentionally self-inflicted during the incident as he stabbed the other man.
Torres has now been arrested on a charge of attempted murder in relation to the stabbing and was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released additional details about the circumstances that led to the altercation. No other arrests have been announced.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Rapid City Police Department.
