Governor Larry Rhoden has appointed Judge Chad Callahan as a circuit judge in South Dakota’s Fourth Judicial Circuit, filling the vacancy left by the retirement of Judge Mike Day.
Callahan currently serves as a magistrate judge in the Fourth Circuit and brings decades of legal experience to the position.
Originally from Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Callahan earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown and a law degree from Ohio Northern University. His career includes time in private practice, service as a public defender in Pennington County, and work as an assistant attorney general from 2013 to 2017.
Callahan lives in Black Hawk with his wife and their three children.
