A Rapid City educator has been named one of five finalists for South Dakota’s 2027 Teacher of the Year.
Kathryn Swank, a fifth-grade teacher in the Rapid City Area School District, was selected as the Region 5 Teacher of the Year, as announced by the South Dakota Department of Education. Swank is one of five regional honorees statewide who will compete for the 2027 South Dakota Teacher of the Year title.
Secretary of Education Dr. Joseph Graves will visit Swank and the other regional winners to present them with a Teacher of the Year banner. Each finalist will be interviewed later this summer by a selection panel, with the statewide Teacher of the Year to be announced this fall.
