A Rosebud man was sentenced in federal court after pleading guilty to two counts of domestic assault as a habitual offender.
Marlon Oliver Jr., 41, received a total sentence of two years and 10 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Oliver was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2025 and pleaded guilty on Jan. 12, 2026. The convictions stem from two separate incidents in Todd County on the Rosebud Sioux Indian Reservation. In October 2024, Oliver shoved his domestic partner during an argument at her residence. In December 2024, he refused to leave her home and threatened her with a knife.
At the time of both incidents, Oliver had two prior domestic assault convictions in Rosebud Sioux Tribal Court.
The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office under the Major Crimes Act. Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services investigated the case. Oliver was remanded to U.S. Marshals Service custody.
