The South Dakota Open Meetings Commission has issued a public reprimand to the Hermosa town board after determining it violated state open-meeting laws.
The decision centers on an unannounced work session held by the board on April 22, 2025, prior to its scheduled public meeting. A complaint filed by Hermosa resident Vicki Henrichsen led to an investigation by the Custer County State’s Attorney, who concluded the board failed to provide the legally required 24-hour public notice and agenda.
The town board, through its attorney, acknowledged the violation. Commission members said the infraction was clear, though they noted the board’s cooperation, and voted to issue a public reprimand.
