A Sioux Falls police officer was shot and seriously injured Monday afternoon while responding to a weapons call, according to police.
Officers were dispatched to a business near 12th Street and Lyons Avenue after reports that a person pulled a weapon and fled with another individual. As officers made contact with the pair nearby, one of the suspects produced a gun and shot an officer.
The suspects fled but were later arrested near 49th Street and Marion Road. Police Chief Jon Thum said the injured officer was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.
Several roads near 12th Street and Lyons Avenue were closed as the investigation continued, and police activity caused bus delays for some students at Garfield Elementary. Police said to provide an update today.
