A Mission man has been sentenced in federal court for assaulting a corrections officer at a tribal jail, U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons announced.
Duane Rouillard III, 37, was sentenced April 21 by U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte to time served — about three years and one month in custody — followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
Rouillard pleaded guilty in February to assaulting, resisting and impeding a federal officer. Prosecutors said he punched a corrections officer multiple times in the head and face while in custody at the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Adult Correctional Facility in December 2022.
The case was investigated by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Rouillard was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
