Rapid City’s remote yard waste disposal sites will open for the season.
Residents can drop off yard waste at Fitzgerald Stadium (2721 Canyon Lake Drive) and the Nickel Street site (1117 Nickel St.), beginning May 5. Both locations will also accept plastic and cardboard recycling, but dumping trash or commercial waste is prohibited.
The city is also launching a new subscription‑based curbside yard waste service starting Monday. The service costs $15 per month plus tax and runs from May 1 through Nov. 30 on a resident’s regular collection day. Yard waste containers are provided to subscribers, while non‑subscribers may continue to use the remote sites.
The Rapid City Landfill transfer site remains open 24/7 for yard waste and recycling, and residents can also purchase city‑made yard‑waste compost for one cent per pound.
