Secretary of State Monae Johnson is reminding South Dakotans to register to vote ahead of the June 2 primary election.
The voter registration deadline is 5 p.m. local time on May 18. State law requires voters to be registered at least 15 days before an election.
While voter registration is managed at the county level, residents have several ways to register. Options include county auditor offices, driver’s license exam stations, Department of Human Services offices, military recruitment centers, the Secretary of State’s Office, municipal finance offices, and agencies that provide services such as Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, and WIC. Voters may also download a registration form online and return it to their county auditor.
South Dakotans can verify their registration status, find polling locations, access absentee ballot information, and view sample ballots through the state’s online Voter Information Portal.
