Restroom facilities at Mary Hall Park remain closed indefinitely after significant vandalism was discovered Wednesday afternoon.
According to city officials, toilets and sinks were damaged beyond repair, with debris scattered throughout the west side park facilities. Rapid City police are investigating the incident, which occurred just days after park restrooms opened for the summer season.
City Parks Division Manager Scott Anderson described the damage as severe, calling it one of the most serious incidents of destruction he has seen in city parks. He said repairs will require considerable city resources.
As of Thursday afternoon, three juveniles have been identified as being involved. The investigation remains active, and officials said those involved will be held accountable through the juvenile justice system.
City officials are asking anyone who witnessed suspicious activity at the park to contact authorities. Mary Hall Park is located off Sioux San Drive in west Rapid City.
The city operates more than three dozen parks, and officials say vandalism continues to be an ongoing issue despite daily inspections and increased monitoring.
