Rapid City street crews are making steady progress this month as they work to clean every street and repair thousands of potholes across the community.
The city’s annual “Sweeps Month” is nearing the halfway point, with crews continuing efforts to clear debris from roadways throughout May. At the same time, pothole repair crews have already filled 862 potholes in the first week alone, using nearly 24 tons of material.
Street Superintendent Jesse Rieb said crews are on pace to reach their goal of filling 3,000 potholes by the end of the month.
The bulk of the city’s annual pothole repairs — about 4,000 each year — typically takes place during warmer months when asphalt plants are operating.
The work coincides with National Public Works Week, which runs May 17–23 and highlights the role of public works employees.
Residents are encouraged to report potholes by calling the city’s hotline or using the online “Report A Problem” tool to help crews respond quickly.
