Fire crews were working Wednesday night to contain a wildfire burning in the East Gate/Wildlife Loop area of Custer State Park 10 miles east of Custer.
The fire, which has been named the Buffalo Fire, prompted a response from multiple ground units, with aerial resources also deployed to assist in suppression efforts.
As of midnight, the wildfire had burned approximately two acres. Fire officials reported the blaze was moving through a mix of grass and timber, producing flame lengths of 2 to 4 feet and showing a moderate potential for spread.
Crews continued to work the fire into the evening, focusing on containment and preventing further growth in the popular park area.
No injuries or structural threats have been reported at this time. Officials have not yet released a cause for the fire, and the situation remains under active management.
Meanwhile, A wildfire burning in Fall River County has scorched 100 acres. The Duck Fire, 3 miles northwest of Ardmore was reported last evening. We’ll provide updates as they become available.
