A bomb threat prompted the evacuation of Rapid City Central High School on Thursday, May 14, though authorities later determined there was no credible danger.
Police said the threat was reported shortly before 1 p.m., leading to a rapid response from law enforcement and the evacuation of students and staff within about an hour.
Officers, along with explosives detection K9 units from Ellsworth Air Force Base, conducted a full search of the building. By about 6 p.m., officials confirmed no threats were found.
Police Chief Don Hedrick said the incident triggered an immediate response focused on safety, while school officials praised staff and first responders for quickly clearing the building.
Authorities noted similar hoax threats have occurred nationwide in recent weeks and said they are working with federal partners to identify those responsible.
