Fire crews have contained the Duck Fire in southern Fall River County after the wildfire grew to approximately 175 acres, officials reported.
The fire, located about three miles northwest of Ardmore, was first reported late May 13 and initially burned around 100 acres as firefighters began suppression efforts.
Crews worked through challenging conditions — including strong winds, low humidity, and high temperatures — that increased the risk of rapid fire spread across the region.
Officials say the fire is now fully contained, and no injuries or structural damage have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Duck Fire was one of several wildfires reported across western South Dakota during a period of elevated fire danger, prompting warnings for residents to avoid outdoor burning and remain cautious.
