A Rapid City man was arrested Wednesday night after police say he threatened responding officers with a metal rod during a disturbance call at an apartment complex.
Officers were dispatched to a residence at 1330 Atlas Street at approximately 9:30 p.m. on May 13 following a report of an in-progress disturbance, according to a police release.
When officers arrived, they knocked on the apartment door. A woman inside invited them to enter. As officers opened the door, they encountered a man standing in the entryway reportedly holding a large metal rod above his head in a threatening manner.
Police issued multiple commands for the man to drop the object, but he initially refused to comply. An officer then deployed a Taser, after which the man began following commands and was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Benjamin Longwolf of Rapid City.
Authorities said Longwolf was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene, in accordance with department policy, before being arrested. He faces a charge of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, as well as several outstanding warrants.
Longwolf was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
No injuries to officers or others were reported in the incident.
