A Rapid City woman convicted in connection with her mother’s death has been released from jail and placed on probation.
Taylor Bird Horse, 27, was released from the Pennington County Jail on Wednesday after pleading no contest on April 2 to second-degree manslaughter. She was initially charged with first-degree manslaughter.
Under the terms of her sentence, Bird Horse will serve 10 years of probation. If she violates the conditions, she could face up to 10 years in prison.
According to police, Bird Horse and her mother were involved in an altercation at an apartment on North Maple Avenue on April 7, 2025. Authorities said the victim suffered a stab wound during the incident.
Officers were later called to Monument Health Hospital on April 10, 2025, where the woman died from an infection related to the injury. An autopsy confirmed the cause of death.
The case has now concluded with Bird Horse’s sentencing and release under supervision.
