A Rapid City man was arrested late May 17 after police say he broke into a business and fled on foot with stolen items.
Officers responded around 11:35 p.m. to 2700 E. Highway 44 after receiving a report of a burglary in progress. A male suspect had allegedly thrown a rock through a glass door to gain entry and then took several items before fleeing.
As officers arrived, they spotted a man walking in the 2400 block of E. Highway 44 carrying multiple packages of unopened cigarettes who matched the suspect’s description.
The man was detained and identified as 22-year-old Alfred Richards of Rapid City. A witness later positively identified him as the suspect, police said.
Richards was arrested on charges including third-degree burglary, vandalism, theft and an outstanding warrant. He was taken to the Pennington County Jail.
