A Rapid City man who fired multiple shots at a group of teenagers outside Scheels in March 2025 has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Connor Allen, now 18, was 17 at the time of the incident. Authorities said he drove past four teens as they walked to their car, slowed down, and fired four rounds. No one was physically injured, though one victim was Allen’s ex-girlfriend.
After about a year of legal proceedings, Allen pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault and agreed to remain in adult court. Prosecutors had originally charged him with attempted murder.
At sentencing, two victims and the parents of another described lasting emotional trauma, with one telling the court, “We could have died.”
Seventh Circuit Presiding Judge Heidi Linngren said the shooting reflected a pattern of escalating violence and noted Allen was on probation at the time. She acknowledged his age but said he posed a danger to the community.
Prosecutors had sought a 25-year sentence with 15 years suspended. Ultimately, the court sentenced Allen to eight years in prison.
