South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has released the final ballot explanation for a proposed constitutional amendment that would repeal expanded Medicaid coverage if federal funding drops below 90%.
The amendment, placed on the ballot by the 2025 South Dakota Legislature, will go before voters in the Nov. 3 general election.
The proposal would end the state’s Medicaid expansion if the federal government reduces its share of funding for the program below the current 90% threshold.
Jackley, as required by law, does not take a position on ballot measures when preparing explanations for voters.
The final explanation was issued after a 10-day public comment period on a draft version. No comments were submitted before the deadline.
The measure was sponsored in the Legislature by Rep. Will Mortenson and Sen. Casey Crabtree.
