The U.S. Senate has confirmed longtime law enforcement officer Dan Satterlee as U.S. marshal for the District of South Dakota.
Satterlee, who has served as director of the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation since 2023, brings three decades of experience with the agency. He was nominated by President Donald Trump in October.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley recommended Satterlee for the role, with support from Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Sen. Mike Rounds.
In a statement, Thune praised Satterlee’s background and commitment to public safety, saying he is confident Satterlee will work to keep communities safe.
Jackley also commended Satterlee, saying he was honored to appoint him to lead DCI and to recommend him for the federal post, adding he believes Satterlee will serve the state well as U.S. marshal.
