The South Dakota Board of Regents has outlined a new strategy aimed at positioning the state’s public universities as leaders in artificial intelligence adoption.
The plan focuses on preparing students, faculty and staff for an AI-driven workforce while strengthening the competitiveness of the state’s higher education system. Regents President Jeff Partridge said the effort reflects rapid changes across industries.
The initiative will center on five key areas: governance and infrastructure, curriculum development, use of advanced AI tools, research, and building AI literacy across campuses.
University of South Dakota President Sheila Gestring said the strategy emphasizes responsible and practical use of emerging technologies.
Board officials said the effort is designed to prepare the state’s higher education system for the coming decade and align student skills with workforce demands.
