The VA Black Hills Health Care System has received a 5-star rating in the latest Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services hospital quality rankings, improving from four stars last year.
The top rating reflects performance across measures including mortality, safety, readmissions, patient experience, and timely care.
Director Spencer Mion said the designation highlights the system’s commitment to high-quality care for veterans.
Nationwide, the Department of Veterans Affairs said 78% of its rated hospitals earned four or five stars in 2026, marking the fourth straight year the VA has outperformed non-VA systems.
