The public is invited to a Friday ceremony marking the burial of Rapid City’s 2076 time capsule at Founders Park.
The event is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. May 29 and is part of activities commemorating the city’s 150th anniversary and the America 250 celebration.
The capsule will include nearly 30 items reflecting life in Rapid City in 2026, along with predictions for the future and references to the community’s past. Contents range from a recent community photo and local newspapers to youth artwork, Native cultural items and memorabilia from attractions such as Storybook Island and Dinosaur Park.
The program will feature remarks from Mayor Jason Salamun, an invocation, a historical reflection, and a Lakota prayer song blessing.
