Thousands of pounds of food collected during this year’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive will help provide more than 54,000 meals to South Dakotans facing food insecurity according to Feeding South Dakota.
The annual effort, organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, was held May 9 and asked residents to leave nonperishable donations by their mailboxes for pickup.
Letter carriers collected nearly 14,000 pounds of food in Rapid City and more than 45,000 pounds in Sioux Falls, along with $1,570 in monetary donations.
Feeding South Dakota said the contributions will help stock food banks, pantries and meal programs statewide. Organizers encouraged residents to continue supporting hunger relief efforts by hosting local food drives.
