Authorities initiated a search for a missing 23-year-old man after his vehicle was discovered in a remote forested area west of Rapid City.
The Meade County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a missing person call around 11:00 a.m. Monday for Jonah Temple of Black Hawk, who had not been in contact with family members for approximately three days.
During the initial investigation, deputies located Temple’s vehicle on U.S. Forest Service land at the far west end of Peaceful Pines Road, prompting an extensive search operation in the surrounding area.
Multiple agencies have joined the effort, including the South Dakota Highway Patrol, U.S. Forest Service, Pennington County Search and Rescue, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department. Black Hills Life Flight is also assisting with aerial flyovers to aid in locating Temple.
Authorities say there is no indication of a threat to public safety, but they are asking residents to avoid the search area so crews can operate safely and efficiently.
Search efforts were suspended as of 8:20pm Monday evening and are set to resume this morning.
Anyone with information about Jonah Temple or his whereabouts is urged to contact the Meade County Sheriff’s Office at 605-347-2681.
