Rapid City street crews filled nearly 4,300 potholes in May, far exceeding a goal of 3,000 repairs for the month and matching what crews typically complete in an entire year.
City Street Superintendent Jesse Rieb credited the milestone to consistent effort and community input. “Crews kept busy throughout the month and really pushed to reach and exceed the goal,” Rieb said, thanking residents who reported pothole locations.
Workers used more than 111 tons of asphalt and 34,000 pounds of mastic, a durable, rubber-like patching material that bonds quickly and can handle traffic within an hour.
Rieb said crews will continue repairs throughout the summer and encouraged residents to report potholes by calling 605-394-4152 or using the city’s online “Report A Problem” tool.
