A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges involving the attempted online enticement of a minor and receipt of child pornography.
Brockton Dominquez, 28, was sentenced June 1 by U.S. District Judge Camela C. Theeler. He received 20 years on each charge, to be served concurrently, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
According to court documents, the investigation began in July 2024 when Dominquez started communicating through Facebook with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. The individual was, in fact, an undercover law enforcement officer.
Authorities said Dominquez continued the online exchanges over several weeks before arranging a meeting. On Aug. 2, 2024, he traveled to West Middle School in Rapid City with the intent to meet the supposed minor, where officers arrested him without incident.
In addition to his prison term, Dominquez was ordered to pay $10,000 in restitution to a victim and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
The case was investigated by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Rapid City Police Department, and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. The effort was part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative, a nationwide program aimed at combating the exploitation of children.
