A second Rapid City woman has died following a two-vehicle crash last month west of the city, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
Authorities say Leah Renee Thornton, 56, died as a result of injuries sustained in the May 14 crash on Highway 16, about six miles west of Rapid City.
She was the driver of a Toyota Corolla involved in the collision. Officials previously reported that 76-year-old Lyla Dee Henrichsen, also of Rapid City and a passenger in the car, died earlier from injuries sustained in the crash.
According to the Highway Patrol, the crash occurred when Thornton entered the intersection from Busted Five Court and collided with a westbound GMC Sierra on Highway 16. The impact caused the Corolla to spin onto the shoulder, ejecting Henrichsen from the vehicle.
The driver of the GMC Sierra suffered minor injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
