Teldon Kills Small pleaded guilty Tuesday in federal court to second‑degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting on the Pine Ridge Reservation in November 2025.
In court filings, Kills Small said he went to the home of Koetay Dreaming Bear—whom he described as a friend—during a personal dispute while armed with a 9mm semi‑automatic pistol equipped with a laser sight. After being told to leave, he fired 10 rounds, striking Dreaming Bear seven times and killing him. A minor at the scene was also wounded in the forearm.
Kills Small fled to Rapid City following the shooting but was arrested the next morning by the FBI and Rapid City Police. He later admitted to investigators that he carried out the shooting and was not acting in self‑defense.
Under a plea agreement, Kills Small pleaded guilty to one count of second‑degree murder, and four additional charges will be dismissed. He is awaiting sentencing.
